Hydrocele in Infants
Description
Hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle. The fluid that fills the hydrocele usually came from the stomach. The liquid percolates through ‘balon’-like structure around the testicle called the tunica vaginalis. Neck ‘balloon’ This extends from the testes to the abdomen. Typically, the neck is closed before the baby is born. If it fails to close, fluid continues to leak and cause swelling of the scrotum.
Symptoms
The pain due to swelling in the scrotum is a sign of hydrocele. Swelling can occur in both hydrocele (testicles).
Treatment
Hiidrokel usually normal self within a few months after birth. Surgery is recommended if the hydrocele is still present after a baby aged 12 to 18 months.
