Barotitis is an inflammation of the ear caused by changes in atmospheric pressure.This condition is also called aerotitis. Barotitis is a problem of inflammation orbleeding in the middle ear caused by the difference between the air pressure in themiddle ear and the atmosphere as the time at altitude, diving, or vacuum.
Symptoms:
Pain in the ear and toothache are the hallmark of this disease.
Treatment:
Someone with acute upper respiratory infection or allergic reaction is recommendednot to fly or dive. However, if these activities had to be done, a nasal vasoconstrictorsuch as phenylephrine 0.25 percent applied 30 minutes before flight or divingactivities can help overcome this problem.
